A Sleek Place to Sleep

As a designer, I like the opportunity to orchestrate a complete transformation, and this master bedroom was a project I was happy to tackle.
Marcie and her husband Peter have been my clients for several years and I have helped them with transforming several rooms in their home, including a major kitchen remodel six years ago.

The task this time was transforming their master bedroom from dated and tired to a sleek, contemporary retreat.
The first challenge was creating a new floor plan.
Their old bed was placed under the window blocking the main light source and making their room look very cramped. By moving the bed and night stands to the main wall, I was able to create the illusion of a much larger room and free the window from being blocked.
My main goal was to minimize the number of pieces needed. One of the ways
I was able to achieve it was by using oversized nightstands that would double as small chests and be used for extra storage. To these we added a good-sized dresser and a bench with deep drawers, once again allowing for a multi-function piece.
The furniture we selected had a beautiful contemporary flair highlighted by  gentle curves and an exoctic wood grain

The store-bought bedspread was replaced with custom bedding in soft bluesand beiges. All of  the bedding can be reversed, allowing two different looks for the price of one.

The whimsical lamps with silk brown shades and a few well-placed art pieces give the room a finished look.
